Great Performances

Wyoming junior Cedric Simmons is a first year wrestler for the Cowboys. He was never involved in any organized sports prior to coming to Wyoming 2 years ago. He participated in track last spring, but that was the only time he was involved with team. This year Cedric was walking the halls and I figured I would take a shot and recruit him.

He began the season rocky. He would miss practices because of a variety of reasons. He got beat pretty badly. He was a fish out of water trying to find his way around. I often wondered if he was ever going to pan out. Well, on January 28th Cedric became a real contender. He pinned the #2 seed at the Miami Trace invite and went onto pin the #6 seeded kid as well. Cedric ended the tournament with a 6th place finish. He was pinned in the finals, but came off the mat smiling. I asked, "What in the world are you smiling about?"

His reply, "Coach, what was that...I am confused. How'd that happen? Teach me not to do that again."

Well...the teaching is under way. The coaching staff is excited about his potential. He is 9-7 this year and he is enjoying his wrestling family.
